Common running injuries

Are you running for pleasure, fitness or training for a 5km, 10km, Half marathon or a Full marathon, but struggling due to leg pain?
Below are a number of common running injuries that can occur which require treatment / rehabilitation to allow you to continue running to the best of your abilities and injury free.
Common Injuries:
» Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, aka “Runners Knee”
» Achilles Tendinitis
» Hamstring Strains / Pain
» Plantar Fasciitis
» IT Band Syndrome
» Shin Splints
Symptoms:
Runners knee (PFPS):
» Pain when bending the knee eg. Squatting or climbing stairs
» Cracking / Popping in the knee
» Pain in the knee when sitting for extended periods of time
Achilles Tendinitis:
» Pain + Stiffness in the ankle joint in the morning
» Tendon pain during activity thickness on the tendon
» Severe pain the day after activity + Swelling
Plantar Fascilitis (Underside of your foot):
» Pain in the mornings when taking first few steps
» OK during activity, but pain once activities are stopped
» Stabbing pain under your foot
IT Band Syndrome:
» Sharp or burning pain on the outside of your knee + swelling
» Pain worsens after activity
Shin Splints:
» Sharp pain, swelling and/or tightness in the shin area
